So after I raised all that hullaballoo over possibly switching my major earlier this week, after all that fuss and angst -- I've decided to keep doing what I've been doing all along. Sorry for the letdown, guys. :(

Still, I'm pretty certain this is the right decision. While I've complained about my current ES classes before, I think my current complaining is over the facts that I haven't been doing all that great in the mental health department lately, I don't have all that great professors, and that I have a tendency to confuse burnout with no longer being interested in a subject. I do dig this stuff and find it interesting, and I'm especially optimistic about my African politics and American foreign policy classes (the professor of the latter wrote this book, which got pimped out by Thomas Friedman recently). I met with my adviser on Thursday (who's going to be on leave next year), and he told me that the goal should be to graduate on time with a degree in something, and that while switching majors wouldn't be unfeasible at this point, double-majoring could lead to problems because of possible scheduling conflicts. I decided not to risk that and keep doing what I've been doing. (I also chose this because it means putting off the decision whether or not to do Language School this summer a little bit longer. :D)

This spring doesn't look to be too much fun, because of GIS and the loads of readings that come with political science courses, the fact that I will be auditing Japanese on top of it, and the fact that I have no electives or "take-it-easy" classes (though I hear the workload for African politics is pretty manageable). Spring semester is also always my weaker semester, anyway, so we'll see how high my burnout level goes. O_o; On the other hand, I have NO FRIDAY CLASSES!!!!! THREE-DAY WEEKENDS WOO-HOO!!!!! XD Of course, this won't mean much because I'll have so much work (see above), but it's still extremely awesome. And I'll be knocking four of my major requirements out of the way, which means I only have two more to do next year (as well as my other CW class), which means I might be able to graduate a semester early? Who knows? :DDDDDDDDDD

In other news, I've gotten sick again. D: I had a pretty bad sore throat Thursday and yesterday, to the point where I was coughing up a storm yesterday evening; after a nice 12-hour beauty sleep, my throat doesn't hurt as bad, but I'm still very much under the weather and I hope things don't get worse from here *knocks on wood*. Because of this and my burnout, I didn't do much of anything this past week, except a stats exam Thursday night (which I'm pretty sure I kicked ass in -- then again, the last time I thought I kicked ass on an exam, I got a C).

But I did go to the International Students Organization's cultural show last night! Believe me, there's nothing like spending a Friday night gorging on cookies and brownies while watching your fellow students (including some people I know quite well!) celebrating their heritage and doing what they love. The skits with the emcees in between performances were pretty lame and unfunny (though the best exchange went a little something like this: A [who's Asian]: "He looked right into my eyes and told me to marry him!" B: "How could he? I can't even see your eyes!" A: "It's called 'wide-screen'; it's the new 'in' thing!"), but the performances were generally amazing and awesome and other adjectives with positive connotations. ;-) My favorites were the capoeira, the 4-hand reel Irish dance, the soran bushi (a fisherman's dance from Hokkaido), the Andean dance performance, and the Bollywood skit.

Two other things that relate to college somewhat:

My college's president made TIME Magazine's Top 10 Best College Presidents list. Not sure if he actually deserves it, but I never thought he was all that bad. (You can read criticism of the list here.)

Dan Deacon Hospitalized With Acute Sciatica, Shows Canceled -- And he just played here last week. O_o
