quadruplify: Stuart Staples (lead singer of Tindersticks) surrounded by pigeons (afghan whigs)
Well, I'm glad this week is over. I had SO MUCH work due yesterday it was unbelievable. I probably screwed up the latest Enviro Econ problem set as well, and having an exam coming up for the same class this Wednesday means that I'll have to be catching up on everything and studying everything over the next few days. Not to mention this stupid "letter to the editor" assignment in IEP, where our grade is dependent on whether or not we get it published and where (I've ranted about this before, so I won't re-rant about it here). So this weekend will be a much-deserved rest before next week, which won't nearly be as bad (exam notwithstanding).

Today was the Abenaki basket-weaving demonstration as part of our symposium, which I'll post separately just to keep things consistent. ;-)

OK, it's TALK ABOUT FOOD TIME:

The sushi party on Thursday was great! It was held, as it usually is each fall, at one of the sensei's houses, and three of the senseis as well as our TA was responsible for preparing everything. It was also "roll your own," and I can't roll sushi to save my life, but with a little bit of soy sauce and natto (which I tried for the first time -- I actually quite liked it, but only in small amounts), it was really good, despite having forgotten how to use chopsticks (which I was never good at anyway, LOL XD). There was also edamame there, but I didn't discover it until it had almost ran out, which sucks since I LOVE that stuff. There was more last year -- I believe there was udon and maybe something else too -- and I didn't really talk to people all that much, because a.) I didn't know most of the people there, and b.) those I did know were either studying for an exam that night or people I didn't want to talk to. But still, SUSHI. Considering how rarely I have it, that's gotta count for something, right? :D

Last night a friend of mine invited me to Dolci, the student-run "restaurant" that runs in one of the dining halls every Friday night. Students cooks and serve the meals (my friend was head cook that night), and there's lit candles and tablecloths and fancy silverware and everything. It's supposed to be this classy alternative to crappy dining hall food, and you can get in either by getting free tickets they hand out somewhere at a designated place and time (I don't know where) or by invite. I had never done this before (in my 2.25 years of being here), so I decided to take the chance. Here was the menu:

  • mixed green salad with feta cheese, green apple, and cranberries w/ a vinaigrette of olive oil and balsamic vinegar (ZOMG BEST SALAD EVERRRRRRRR XD)
  • roasted duck breast or tofu steak with sage pesto of walnuts, olive oil, and garlic (I had the tofu steak, and it was delicious, especially with the pesto sauce)
  • corn risotto with fire-roasted red peppers, arborio rice, white wine, Parmesan cheese, butter, and shallots (it was all right, but I couldn't have too much of it -- it feels like way too much after just reading it)
  • sautéed winter squash with garlic and ginger, cooked in olive oil and butter (REALLY didn't like this at all)
  • rosemary-studded pumpkin pie (made with vanilla, spices, heavy cream, eggs, and butter) with whiskey butter sauce (this wasn't too bad, but the whiskey butter sauce was a little too intense for me, and the whole thing again seems like it was a bit much)
Have I got you guys salivating yet? 8D

So tomorrow is Quidditch, which means I probably won't be working on any of my homework because it lasts pretty much all day. XD Here's the schedule -- I for one am digging the Harvard-Yale matchup at 11:40! And just to show how seriously kids at my college take Quidditch, I present you this. (As for tonight, I'm not sure if I want to go to anime club, since there were some technical issues last week so there were some things we couldn't show; I have the episodes they couldn't play but I haven't seen them yet, and I'm not sure what they're going to do. Plus, it's in fifteen minutes, and I haven't had dinner yet, so. *confused* O_o)

Now for a few memes:

In which I throw a Halloween party, even though I don't like Halloween )

From [livejournal.com profile] atelierlune :

Do you ever find yourself walking down the street imagining your life's soundtrack? Of course you do. Don't lie. Ever wondered what music other people would set your life to? Have a song that when you hear it, you automatically think of a certain friend?

Post this in your Livejournal and your friends will reply with song(s) [it's really up to you guys how many you want to reply with] that they would include in your soundtrack. An explanation would be nice, but if you're insisting on being ~*mysterious*~ about it, that's totally your prerogative. It's just for fun =)

(NOTE: If you gank this meme from me and I don't leave a comment, it's just because I find it REALLY HARD to come up with a song for this kind of thing. And also, because I've known you all for less than a year, so it kinda just doesn't feel right with me. Sorry. D:)

And from [profile] edge_chan :

Even if you think it's common knowledge, leave a comment with your name, age, birthday, location, occupation and photo. I friended many of you because you were cool in various communities, so it'd be nice to be able to put a name and a face to all of your usernames! And if you're fairly confident I know all of this already, do it anyway so everyone can see your pretty faces.

(A drawing is fine too -- you really don't have to do this if you don't feel comfortable, or you can just link to it if you don't want it showing up in the comments.)

And finally, this week's (late) song:

The bass line is amazing.  'Nuff said.

That's all for now!  ^_^
