Yep, today was the big 2-0 (though maybe calling it "big" is a bad idea; 21, on the other hand...XD). I went with my family to a Chinese restaurant we all like. And man, did we have a goddamned feast: sesame shrimp with the best sesame sauce ever, shredded beef in a spicy ginger sauce, sweet and sour pork with peppers, carrots, and pineapple, along with vegetable lo mein, edamame, and (for me) egg drop soup. And earlier that day my dad picked up Italian cookies and cannoli at a local bakery, which we had after we got home. And holy crap, they had to have been the most badass cannoli ever! Mine was filled with chocolate cream and topped with melted chocolate and chocolate chips. It was....well, just.....
A helluva lot better than cake, right? XD
I really don't like having cake for my birthday, and I'm not a big fan of throwing parties either -- to me, I'm not much of a party-goer, and it's just another day, really. Well, "just another day" where at least you have a good excuse to gorge yourself so you don't have to eat for another twelve hours. I am satisfied! =3
I really don't care about gifts either -- I pretty much have everything I could ever want. (In fact, I think I might need to actually get rid of some stuff I don't need/want anymore, especially in my room...) All I really need is money, which I got. ^_^ I also got new sneakers, a new windbreaker/light jacket that actually fits (will come in handy this fall), some Russell Stover chocolates, and OMG AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE!!!!!! :D It's the only thing I've been begging my parents to get me since, well, a year ago, and now I'm completely content.
Still a quiet day, all things considered, but I can definitely use more days like today. Only without the gorging on restaurant food and receiving gifts -- that might be asking a little too much. :3
BTW, a question: is edamame supposed to be served hot or cold? I ask because the restaurant always serves it hot (which is what I prefer, IMO), but every fall the Japanese Department at college hosts a sushi party, and when I went this year there was edamame served cold, which was prepared by professors who I assume know the ins and outs of Japanese cuisine. Anyone know which is more appropriate?
