Everything that happens will happen today
May. 15th, 2009 08:33 pmAs of this afternoon, I'm officially done for the year!! :D Right now I've been trying to pack, relax, and sell some textbooks. I'm not feeling particularly joyous for some reason -- maybe because I'm just extremely tired between the end of the year and having to pack, and just...being alone with my thoughts for a while. Like realizing I'm already halfway done through college WHAT THE HELL. (BTW, the symposium proposal meeting didn't happen last night, due to poor planning; it'll be tomorrow morning, but since it's the same time my parents should be arriving I don't think I'll make it. Woe. D:)
Anyway, I have a few articles and other stuff to share, but since I'm not really in the mood there's no commentary (except maybe a brief summary), just the links.
Going Dutch: How I Learned to Love the European Welfare State (a long read, but well worth it, especially if you're the kind of person who thinks "socialism" is just an economic policy you don't agree with)
[More information on the polder model here.]
Scouts Train to Fight Terrorists, and More (Just...just read this. Trust me, it'll make you go WTF?! That's the only way I can describe this.)
Thriving Norway Provides an Economic Lesson (once again proving "socialism" ≠ "evil")
NH governor will sign gay marriage bill if it's change (Basically, Gov. Lynch has come around to support the gay marriage bill in his state, so long as there is a provision allowing better legal protections for churches who don't want to perform them. Sounds fair to me.)
Chemist Shows How RNA Can Be the Starting Point for Life (getting closer to figuring out what mechanisms caused life to form in the first place)
Board advocates dumping UND nickname, logo (More getting rid of offensive Native American mascots. We'd been talking about this in class last week, so I find this sort of thing interesting. Good for UND!)
