Writer's Block: Word for Word
May. 14th, 2009 05:18 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]You have to do it running
But you do everything that they ask you to
'Cause you don't mind seeing yourself in a picture
As long as you look far away
As long as you look removed
Showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters
Showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters
CHORUS:
You get mistaken for strangers by your own friends
When you pass them at night under the silvery silvery Citibank lights
Arm in arm in arm, and eyes and eyes glazing under
Well you wouldn't want an angel watching over
Surprise, surprise they wouldn't want to watch
Another uninnocent, elegant fall
Into the unmagnificent lives of adults
Make up something to believe in your heart of hearts
So you have something to wear on your sleeve of sleeves
So you swear you just saw a feathery woman
Carry a blindfolded man through the trees
Showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters
Showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters
CHORUS x2
-- The National, "Mistaken for Strangers"
One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. I was almost going to do "Fake Empire" for this one, because that was the song that made me fall in love with them, but then I realized there was, like, two whole lines where I had no fucking clue what he was singing. Even here, I cheated a bit and checked my memory against a lyrics site, but I only made a few minor mistakes which I've corrected -- no whole lines I completely forgot. (While we're at it, I also pretty much have this song to memory, if only because it's become my favorite song ever. As well as a shitload of Radiohead songs.)
You know what, I'm just going to make this The Weekly Song, if only because tomorrow will be spent either in my last exam or rushing to pack.
