Writer's Block: A Conspiracy of Beards
Nov. 4th, 2008 01:23 am[Error: unknown template qotd] I have sideburns. Muttonchops, if you want to call them that. They're very wiry and unruly, unless I have them cut (which I really ought to do today/tomorrow). But overall I like them. Not too many people have them, or if they do they don't grow them to the jawline like I do.
The weird thing is, I got them rather accidentally. In July of 2006 my mom and I spent a week in Italy (it was when we were in Florence when Italy won the World Cup, but that's for another time). I didn't shave as often as I would have liked during this time, and when I came home I had something of a 5-o'clock shadow. I was getting lazy when I shaved; it was almost as if the sideburns were growing down the sides of my face. Finally I just decided to see what would happen if I just let the sideburns grow out, but not get a full beard. I never intended to get them -- they just sort of happened.
The sideburns have generally gotten a positive response; people really seem to like them. On rare occasions random people passing by will compliment them. And I think the reason why a gay man hit on me when I was in San Jose last August was because of them. They haven't attracted too much attention, though, and I'm OK with that. A little bit of people saying things is flattering, but if I heard it often, I'd be thoroughly creeped out. (It's also strange to point out that most of the people that did say something have been guys. O_o)
I also have a small soul patch, too, which refuses to grow bigger. Maybe it's because I have this horrible habit of touching and stroking it when I'm thinking or busy with something. (What? It feels nice! XD) Anyway, I haven't shaved them since forever, and I shave around my sideburns when possible. One of these days, though, I'm probably going to shave them all off. Why? I guess after a while it gets old, and there are times when I don't like the feel of them. I don't like beards -- my dad has one, which is good enough reason not to get one. :D I'd like to go clean-shaven one day, but it's college, so for now I can get away with it. XP
...And that was a long post about something rather pointless. I really need to get to bed, like, right now. Oh well. Hope the election tomorrow goes spectacularly well -- no recounts, lawsuits, intimidation, record purges, faulty machines, or dirty rotten Republicans getting in the way. XD
