I really ought to be packing for going home for Thanksgiving tomorrow morning (well, technically, this morning), so that I won't leave my dad hanging when he comes to pick me up.  But I'm not, of course.  :P  It's not like it'd take that long anyway.  I'm looking forward to it, of course -- as much as I'd rather be here on campus than back home, college can be quite the pressure cooker, and it's nice to get away from it for a while, even though home is the same place I've gone back to yet again.

Anyway, here's another quick RL-stuff-and-memes post before I go.  Here's what's been going on with me lately:

THURSDAY: Went to see Guerrilla Girls on Tour put on their show "Feminists Are Funny," which was entertaining enough but somehow managed not to live up to its name.  (I know feminists are funny -- I've seen plenty of them be funnier than that.)  Afterwards went to Verbal Onslaught, which sadly was not very well-attended, but still a lot of fun.  (I keep promising the people who run it that I'll read something there "the next time," but I never do.  Well, there'll be one held in January, I'm sure I can think up of something for then.)

FRIDAY: Went to see my ex-roommate and her (ex?) girlfriend give a presentation about trans* people of color and the prison-industrial complex, a lot of which was based off of their experiences interning at the Transformative Justice Law Project of Illinois this past summer.  I wish I could talk about it more, because it was very informative and fascinating (especially when they were talking about case studies from their summer internship to highlight their points), but they mentioned a lot of information, most of which took a little while to process, and some of which has already "fallen through the cracks," so to speak.  Plus, it's 2:30 in the morning as I'm writing this, so trying to recap some of the main points would be rather fruitless right now.  If you want, you can ask me questions about the topic in the comments, and I'll try to answer them the best I can.

That night I went to the International Students Organization's annual cultural show; I talked about last year's event here.  Sadly, this year's show wasn't nearly as interesting or entertaining -- I mostly went to see some friends perform, and they all did a really awesome job!  I'm glad I went regardless.  ^_^;

SATURDAY: Strategic gaming club, the last anime club meeting of the semester (we've dropped Full Metal Panic and Kare Kano, as have I -- I would really not recommend either one of them one bit), and the Small Black concert.  It was absolutely amazing; I danced quite a bit, the band had a great stage presence, we all got on stage at the end of the concert, and even though turnout wasn't huge, a good time was had by all.  (The opening act, Class Actress, wasn't all that bad either -- in fact, they impressed quite a number of people who attended.)  I mean, it obviously was a fun night because I just had to buy a couple Small Black CDs afterward.  XD

And three other things:

* Reminder: If you want Christmas/holiday cards from me this year, comment in this entry.

* I'm actually considering signing up for some workshops this J-term.  I know I made fun of them two years ago, but even though a lot of my criticisms then are still valid, now there are some workshops that actually look interesting (or maybe my mindset regarding the whole thing has changed within the past two years, I dunno).  I've narrowed it down to about 10, including Hindi, Persian, ASL, "The Ancient Art of Tea," fencing, and taekwondo (I just know [livejournal.com profile] edge_chan is going to strongly encourage me to take that one, ho boy!  8DDDDDDDDDDDDDD).  I might also take a first aid and CPR class just so I can get certified for that again.  I'll let y'all know what I decide on when the time comes.  ;-)

* This also crossed my f-list tonight; it's a call for donations for an animated film project highlighting the severe human rights abuses in North Korea's prison camps.  I know it's getting to be that time of year where everyone gets a ton of pressure to donate to a million different causes and organizations, but this might be one worth considering.  I know I definitely plan on donating a few bucks to help fund North's production.

Finally, the memes, which I took from around the f-list and the Internet at large:

People hate you.

Paris Hilton hates Nicole Richie. Lex Luther hates Superman. Garfield hates Mondays. But none these even rates against the insurmountable hate, people have for you.

I mean, you're pretty damn clever and you know it. You love to flaunt your potential. Heard the word "arrogant" lately? How about "jerk?" Or perhaps they only say that behind your back.

That's right. I know I can say this cause you're not going to cry. You're not exactly the most emotional person. You'd rather spend time with your theoretical questions and abstract theories than with other people.

Ever been kissed? Ever even been on a date? Trust me, your inflated ego is a complete turnoff with the opposite sex and I am telling you, you're not that great with relationships as it is. You're never going to be a dude or chick magnet, purely because you're more concerned with yourself than others. Meh. They all hate you already anyway.

How about this- "stubborn?" Hrm? Heard that lately? All those facts which don't fit your theories must just be wrong, right? I mean, really, the vast amounts of time you spend with your head in the clouds...you're just plain strange.

About You:

You are a realist.

Your attention to detail, appreciation of how things function, and awareness of the world around you make you a REALIST.

Routines are reassuring to you—you feel safer and more at ease when sticking with familiar things.

You like to stay close with those around you, seeking comfort from familiar faces.

You are interested in processes—how things work, what they do, and why—not just how things look.

Sometimes you doubt that you can find solutions to problems, although you have a good sense of why things happen, and can use that knowledge to find the best way to do something.

You are down to earth, concerned more with practical, detail-oriented things than with dreamy or ambiguous ideas.

You have a good sense of your abilities and weaknesses, and don't let your ego get in your way.

You're not one to force your positions on a group, and you tend to be fair in evaluating different options.

You prefer to have time to plan for things, feeling better with a schedule than with keeping plans up in the air until the last minute.

You do your own thing when it comes to clothing, guided more by practical concerns than by other people's notions of style.

If you want to be different...

Appreciate that your skill set can be useful in many ways; your attention to detail and your familiarity with the inner-workings of things are valuable assets.

Try looking beyond the earthly qualities of things in order to expand your perspective, without losing your grounding in reality.

How You Relate To Others:

You are respectful.

Your reserved nature, understanding of the world, and faith in others make you RESPECTFUL.

You trust those around you to do the right thing, so you tend not to get involved in other people's affairs.

You have fewer friendships than some, but the relationships you do have are very meaningful and important to you.

Your careful and practical observation of your environment has led you to understand that others' situations can be very complex.

Because of this, you are slow to pass judgments on others, even if sometimes you can't see what it is about certain things that upsets them.

You tend to enjoy the world through ideas and reflection, which allows you to get a lot out of the time you spend alone.

Your friends would describe you as laid-back and easy-going.

As someone who is calm and centered, you aren't likely to rush into things—this patience allows you to see many different perspectives and options.

If you want to be different...

Try letting your insight into the world and trust of others allow you to understand the feelings of those around you.

While you know how much can be learned from observing your world, remember that much of life can be lived by experiencing it, not just understanding it.
