quadruplify: Stuart Staples (lead singer of Tindersticks) surrounded by pigeons (shocked)
Hope everyone had a happy Easter!  Mine, sadly, was not, as I spent the majority of this weekend working on the 25-page paper last night.  Right now, I've written 6 -- not quite where I want to be right now, but it's certainly a start, and all the pieces are slowly falling into place.  Now if I can just stop procrastinating so much and write a little bit faster and not care so much what I put down since it's a first draft anyway, I'll be fine.  :P  Because of that, things have been pretty depressing lately, especially since this weekend had some amazing weather, and it turns out this week......won't.  And I hardly had a chance to go outside, because the work for this paper is just too much.  :(

Plus, the people I wanted to talk to on AIM this weekend weren't on at all.  *sigh*  ;_;

One thing I forgot to mention in my last entry: do any of you remember the trailer for the documentary Crude that I posted here?  I was able to see the movie itself last Wednesday!  And it was very, very good, if quite depressing, and I highly recommend it to all of you reading this right now.  It's about how Texaco (now Chevron) and their operations in Amazonian Ecuador, and how their operations disrupted the lives of thousands of indigenous peoples living in the region; these people rely on the rivers and streams of the region for drinking water, cooking, cleaning, bathing, etc., and when these waterways got polluted, cancer, skin diseases, and other illnesses became prevalent in these communities.  Also, Texaco simply covered up many old oil pits with dirt rather than remediating them, so when people unknowingly built their houses over them, they became sick as well, and their quality of life went down dramatically.  The film does better justice to the people involved in this dispute and the suffering they've had to go through; you get to see how utterly difficult the legal process has been to get these indigenous people the justice they deserve, but you also can't help but be encouraged by the amount of work and dedication they've put into building their case and advancing their cause.  Add enough humor to keep things going, and you have one excellent documentary.

Also, you should totally do this!
