the I AM meme
I'll probably write a retrospective of the past year and the past decade sometime later today, just because I think it would be good for myself to sort things out and have some goals in mind for the next year or so (and by that I don't mean New Year's resolutions -- I don't make those :P), but in a way I really don't want to because this year really sucked for me, and I'd much rather look ahead and plan to make 2010 better than look behind. (To say nothing of the "best music and movies of the decade" post[s] I've been meaning to make for a while now, and all the other posts I want to write. UGH, I just don't know if I have the time or energy to do all that. DX)
I've kind of been a bit of a mess lately, for some reason -- nothing bad, just feeling tired, disorganized, and disheveled. My sister is currently over at her friend's house, and my mom recently got a promotion at her job (:D) while having something wrong with her foot, which could very well be gout (D:). We'll all probably do the usual thing tonight and spend New Year's quietly, watching the ball drop on TV, getting a call from my aunt in California, and that's it. Personally, I really don't like New Year's -- not only does it feel extremely arbitrary to me, but it's just an excuse for people to get drunk, and while people getting drunk doesn't bother me all that much (well actually, it does, but that's more of a personal thing than anything else), it's that everyone seems to celebrate this way and think that's the only way to celebrate the number at the end of a date changing for the next 365 days. And it really pisses me off that there's very few people I know who share the same utter lack of enthusiasm. I know I'm coming across as bitter and passive-aggressive, but I don't mean to -- I'm just very conservative in my behavior, and I like it that way. :PPP

So I've been obsessed with the Akinator lately; it's a game in which you think of either a fictional character or real person, and the genie asks 20 questions to determine who it is you're thinking of. And it's scary accurate. And it's hilarious. And it's amazing. And it's GODDAMNED ADDICTIVE. 8DDDDDDDDDDDDDD I mean, it even guessed fairly obscure and minor characters too, so that should tell you something. I only managed to stump it twice so far: once with Maia Skouris, and once with the Quintessons (it actually guessed Cthulhu once for that, which is actually not all that surprising). YOU SHOULD REALLY TRY THIS IT'S FUN AND SCARY AND A GREAT TIME-KILLER :DDDDDDDDDDDD
I am also really happy for this. ^________________^ And this is what real compassion looks like.
China finds likely tomb of 3rd century general
Old news is somewhat old, but even though I'm not particularly keen on archaeology, this is still really cool. |D
Here are some more Iran-related links; this will probably be my last update in a while because things (sadly) seem to be dying down again:
( Cut for length.... )
Other politics links:
Andrew Sullivan: "The Pivotal Presidency"
A good look at just how hard Obama has it -- and a good reality check to progressives who don't think he's doing enough.
Joe Klein: "The Left's Idiocy on Health Care Reform"
Much of the same deal, with emphasis on the extremely flawed but still important health care bill still being finalized. This provided me with some good perspective, and I hope it does to you too.
Here's various testimonials from people who have undergone late-term abortions, compiled a week after the murder of Dr. George Tiller.
Some things not politics-related: the worst songs of the decade, and its worst movie.
This is pretty damn cool:
And finally, a couple more memes I found floating around the Internetz -- what country are you?
( I'd really like to know.... )
