Ghosts caught in lights
Nov. 27th, 2009 10:17 pmIt turns out the reason why my computer is making those noises all the time is because -- as I suspected ALL ALONG -- the fan is busted. The guy at the Apple Store offered to repair it -- which would take a week, because apparently they're just that tied up with work orders. Not happening. >:[ It looks like it's gonna have to wait until Christmas break, when I won't need it so much, and I hope that I can schedule an appointment early enough so that I'm only going to be without it for a couple of hours at most. It'll be free since it's still under warranty, but once that expires it looks like we are going to have to get a new one. One that preferably has better hardware -- I like Apples, and why I've had such bad luck with them is mostly my fault because I use them way too much (i.e. they tend to be on 24/7), but it's still disconcerting. :( I think my mom is still interested in Apples, though; she says that even though they're expensive, they come with pretty much all the software and everything else you need, whereas with PCs you have to buy everything separately, which makes the total cost come out to be the same anyway. Thoughts, anyone?
I would say my Black Friday v-card has been lost today, but I went with my mom and sister, and none of us really bought any gifts, just stuff for ourselves, and while the mall was definitely packed I thought it could be much worse. I bought the first volume of Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys (my first manga -- AND SO IT BEGINS XDDDDD), as well as The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan (I already have his In Defense of Food, which I haven't read yet as well) and When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris (I forgot I was interested in Sedaris for a while there, so I'm willing to give this a look-through).
I'm still sick -- I've been coughing like mad all day. Oh well, there goes my break. D: I always seem to get sick, like, every month or every couple of weeks -- always when I return home for a break, and on a regular basis while I'm at college. I don't think there's ever a time when I'm not coughing a lot, it seems. Partly it's my fault -- I don't do a good job of keeping my dorm room clean, I don't exactly eat or sleep right or exercise regularly, I stress myself out to the max, etc. But now I'm wondering if it's something else. I mean, I wish I could go at least two months without getting a goddamned cold, and I hate being so sick ALL THE TIME. I don't know if it's just me, or some other factor as well. -_-
Some of my current jams:
Divisible -- "Living With a Ghost"
Lights -- "River" (it's a guilty pleasure, what can I say? XD)
Saltillo -- "Giving In"
And now for some memes! Here's the interview meme yet again, this time with questions from
mcollinknight:
1. What's your favourite book? Or what's been a really important book for you? (you're allowed to name several because I know that's cruel)
2. What attracted you to Japanese? Have you ever tried to learn any other languages?
3. If I made dinner for you what would it be?
4. What's one thing you've always been naturally good at? What's one thing you don't think you'll ever get better at no matter how hard you practice?
5. Who was your best childhood friend? Do you know where they are now?
