I've been meaning to post about Iran for some time, but some personal issues (see last entry) and the fact that any information coming out of there has slowed quite a bit means I probably won't get around to doing it until later this week.  Yes, the brutality against the peaceful demonstrators has increased significantly, which is nothing short of heartbreaking, but I realize it could've been a lot worse -- the sheer magnitude of what happened in Tiananmen Square 20 years ago could've happened in Azadi Square this past weekend, but thankfully didn't.  But Neda....oh dear lord....D=  I don't think I'll ever get that video out of my head.  Ever.  I'm not normally affected by things like that, but I've seen it twice and I don't think I can bear to see it again.  At least there's that video of the protesters pushing back the Basij to counteract it.  XD

Today was the first farmer's market of the year in Hamden, so this afternoon my dad, my sister, and I decided to go.  It wasn't much -- I'd say there was only 10 tents there at the most, and we were only there for less than a half hour, but it was really cool!  We bought some rainbow Swiss chard, mesculun, spinach and cheese stuffed bread, raspberry pie, and some herbal tea for my mom.  (For dinner tonight we used the Swiss chard and the mesculun in a salad, which tasted awesome.  Though there was hardly any cheese in the stuffed bread, and the raspberry pie seemed to have a strong blueberry taste to it.  Not like we were complaining, though.  =3)  There were also some damn good-looking radishes and strawberries, and there was one vendor who runs an online business shipping homemade salsa across the country, and another who had honey, beeswax soaps and candles, and organic bug spray.  People who had brought their kids were hanging out and playing around, and except for the fact that it was small and there was some middle-aged dude with a guitar singing "I Can See Clearly Now" not all that great (*facepalm*), it had a great atmosphere.

Apparently my family has decided to go to as many farmer's markets as they can in our area (which is a decision I totally support!  :D), especially ones in more rural areas where we could probably see more vendors; most of them are on Saturdays, though, so we'll see how that goes.  I don't think they'll be as big as the one at college, though -- unlike Vermont, Connecticut doesn't have a lot of farms right now to begin with, and we're losing a lot at a rapid rate.  Here in town, there's a strawberry farm about a minute's drive from home, and another one-acre operation that was at today's market, but I've also seen a lot of farmland and pasture quickly turned to lots for a ton of McMansions.  :(

(FTR, it was my sister's last day of school today, and considering the year she had she relished it completely.  :B  Which meant it was also graduation, which we were completely reminded of when we had to drive through the traffic of everyone leaving.  Congratualtions Class of 2009!!!!  Glad you all had a good graduation.  It started raining halfway though mine, and it got so bad that they just decided to call the rest of the ceremony off.  ^_^;)

Later this afternoon I went to the doctor's office for my sleeping problems, and the doctor really couldn't find anything wrong with me.  O_o  Even though I described my symptoms as clearly as I could, he couldn't figure out what would be causing it, and all he suggested to do right now was to try and relax and do breathing exercises as much as possible, because he could clearly tell I was anxious about it, and sometimes when you're anxious it only makes things worse.  I'm going to get some blood drawn tomorrow morning just to see what could be causing it (which means no breakfast before then), but I doubt anything unusual will come up.  (FTR, I had a bit of a problem last night, but not nearly as much as the night before, and I did manage to sleep, so yay!!!)

And last but certainly not least, a funny quote of the day that I just had to share:
"If you want to save yourself the ticket price, go into the kitchen, cue up a male choir singing the music of hell, and get a kid to start banging pots and pans together. Then close your eyes and use your imagination." -- Roger Ebert on a certain movie coming out tonight, whose prequel he praised quite a bit.

I <3 you Roger.  :D

And as a TF fan I want to see this movie, but I'm not all that enthusiastic about it, and my sleeping problems and all the bad reviews I keep on hearing about only make me want to hold off on seeing it even more.  So...yeah.  ^_^;
