As I'm sure you've all heard by now, Dr. George Tiller, one of the few doctors performing late-term abortions in the country, was murdered while ushering at his church in Wichita, KS.  I admit, I've never heard of him before this, but then I came across some personal stories which I think you all should read:

And then after I hear about how he survived being shot in both arms and various other attacks and death threats all throughout a career of helping women who have absolutely nowhere else to turn, and, well.....

I normally don't get affected by things like this, but now I'm just left heartbroken.  D:

The compassion he showed these families and the immense courage he possessed while constantly under fire from extreme anti-abortion activists has made me realize we have lost a true American hero and patriot, and for that I am taking the time here to at least mention him, and make his story known.  And I also realized that "pro-life" is a misnomer -- that movement only cares about control over women's bodies.  They care a lot about life in the womb, but as Dr. Tiller's murder and some zealous activists' responses show, they don't care much about life outside it.

I never knew you, Dr. Tiller, but I have nothing but the absolute best wishes for your family and all those you helped.  May you rest in peace.

And the attorney general is dispatching U.S. Marshals to protect abortion clinics and doctors: info here.  Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political for all links.

But to take my mind off the last post, here's a meme, ganked yet again from [profile] edge_chan:

Rules—
01. Anyone who looks at this entry has to post this meme and their current wallpaper at their LiveJournal. (Well, not anyone, if you don't want to, but it's another amusing diversion, so why not? :P)
02. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper!
03. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

Cut to save f-lists... )
  1. I have, inexplicably, found myself interested in music, specifically alternative/indie/experimental/underground rock; if you take a look at my profile, you'll see which bands and sub-sub-genres I like.  (It's kind of weird, actually, since in middle school and early in high school that I didn't care for music in general.  Then I discovered Radiohead and BitTorrent, and the rest, as they say, is history.  XD)
  2. This desktop was generated by an app available at Last.FM.
  3. This app works by looking at your most-played albums in your Last.FM library, and makes a collage of those album covers.
  4. I either really, really like the albums on this desktop, or I've listened to them a lot but they haven't made much of an impact on me.  :P
  5. I really fucking like this desktop, but I've had it for about a year now and think it's time for a change.
Can you name any of the albums here?  I know some of them are pretty obvious, and others are kind of hidden (if you want, I can send the actual image your way), but still..... ;-)
