hetalia_secrets has gotten a mixed response; a lot of people have made snarky comments my way, though the comm has 70+ watchers. Eh, can't please everyone, right? Hopefully this will alleviate some of the stress on
fandomsecrets and be a good way for me to finally start reading Hetalia. I know I won't like the moé, but the whole "anthropomorphized countries get together and wacky hijinks ensue!" idea appeals to me for some reason. ^_^;
Better news: THE INAUGURATION!!!!! Yeah, old news is old, but I haven't had a chance to cyber-flail about it until now. I watched it at the student center, which was packed. Seeing our nation's first black president get inaugurated was a very sublime experience, the kind of thing that gets your adrenaline going and makes you realize this is the kind of historical event you'll be talking about for the rest of your life. And between Rick Warren's creepiness, John Williams' music, the fumbled oath, Obama's address, and Joseph Lowry's rhyming benediction, it certianly was an entertaining one as well! XD
It's easy in this day and age to be cynical about Obama -- all the expectations on the "Obamessiah" right now, him telling people what they want to hear, etc. But look at what's been happening on his first full day: a moratorium on Bush's midnight regulations, pay freezes, starting to shut down Gitmo, signing executive orders about ethics and open government -- basically, already getting shit done. :D I know Obama isn't perfect and that he'll screw up somewhere along the line, but for right now, I'm very happy for the way things are right now. I hate to imply that I wasn't proud of my country before, but I certainly am now, and I don't want that feeling to go away just yet!
A few links that I've been meaning to post for the longest time now, so some of these are probably old news as well:
