McCain to crowd: 'Don't be scared' of Obama presidency

OK, look here.  If you hate the opposing candidate with so much vitriol that the very candidate you support has to tell you continually to calm down and be more respectful, then there's a problem.  A huge, HUGE problem.

Of course, it doesn't help that one of the worst vice-presidential candidates in our nation's history constantly says Obama was "palling around with terrorists," or that McCain's campaign has mostly been so negative and so full of bile that some Republicans are getting sickened by it, or that many vocal McCain supporters are so stupid as to be convinced that Obama is a Muslim, communist, or "worse."

"I'm mad. I'm really mad. And what's going to surprise you, it's not the economy. It's the socialists taking over our country," one said.

Wait, socialists are taking over our country?  What the fuck?  Last time I checked, Eugene V. Debs has been dead for quite a while now, and socialists had some modicum of political power in only one state...Vermont.  That's it.  I've been going to college here for over a year now, I oughtta know.  Only in Vermont do "special snowflake" conservatives like that dude have to be worried about socialists.

And you know what?  Who cares if someone's policies seem "socialist" or not?  First of all, I highly doubt that people who use terms like "socialism" know what they really mean, or at least haven't studied them in any great depth and just flop them around like the anathemas they've been indoctrinated to believe they are.  And then, what if a "socialist" plan is the best plan for America?  If a so-called "socialist" or "communist" or "collectivist" policy is what this country needs to rebound from economic, environmental, and international crises and disaster, then so be it.  People need to realize that no Lenin or Stalin or Trotsky will ever become President of the United States.  Our capitalist, democratic system may end up having socialist elements, but it will always be a capitalist, democratic system.  Let's not forget that in our witch-hunt for the Antichrist, OK?  OK.

"The day that Sen. Obama cast a vote not to fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body, let me tell you," she [Cindy McCain] told a Pennsylvania crowd before introducing her husband and his No. 2.

So let me get this straight: You not only had the spare time to care about each individual bill going through the Senate, and were so invested in one particular war-spending bill that the thought of anyone voting against it -- and therefore hurting your oh-so-precious baby son going off to fight for the Motherland our country -- would elicit any emotional reaction, you cared so immensely about the vote of one particular senator out of a hundred -- and not your husband, mind you -- that it literally sent a chill down your spine, even though said senator voted for a different version of said war-spending bill?  Really now.

Common sense, people, that's all I ask of you.  It really is a shame, though, that most of it seems to be concentrated in only one part of the political spectrum.  :/

Is there ANY good news out there?  Oh wait, there is!

Connecticut Supreme Court legalizes same-sex marriage

You know, there are times when I'm not too proud of the state I'm from.  It's full of franchises and big-box chain stores and drug labs and crack whores and inner cities and ennui and boredom.  There are a lot of good places in the state to go to, but overall it really isn't all that interesting.

Then comes something like this.  I love you, Connecticut.  XD

OK, sorry for not being as rational or logical as I would have liked.  It's late, and Burlington was awesome...will write more about it after fall break is over.  In the meantime, I need sleep, even though I don't want to go to bed.
