I think 'you get to curate your own online experience' is something that isn't said enough.
Also agree -- and really, it's not only something that people get to do, but what they ought to do. This expectation some people have that everyone else should stop posting things that bother them -- in places where they even might encounter them -- is a problem fandom has always had, and it's only gotten worse now that online fan communities have grown exponentially over the past decade or so.
Anyway, yeah, fandom has gotten weird and I almost wish I had more social sciences in my background so that I could understand it all.
