Villains of the moon
Ugh, this week was a total bust. I hardly got any of my work done -- especially the activist stuff for Social Movements -- I didn't get a chance to do most of the things I wanted to do, I didn't look for any jobs or things like that, I'm still angsting over the summer job I wanted that won't work out, the pictures for my class yearbook all came out horrible, a bunch of other little things I won't mention here, and I've just been lethargic and unmotivated the whole time, doing nothing but sitting at the computer all day. And I go back to college tomorrow. And I have an hour-long exam on Monday morning that I barely studied for. Wonderful. :PPP
I mean, I suppose none of this is really all that bad, since none of my assignments for classes were all that urgent, and some of these other things can be fixed rather easily. Besides, I've decided that it's probably a good idea to wait to get a job until I get my driver's license, because it would be really hard for me to get a job otherwise, considering my parents' work schedules and the piss-poor public transportation around here. Not to mention my mom wants us to go on a family vacation sometime this summer, so there's that too. >_>; Things could always be worse, I suppose, but even though things aren't bad, per se, they're just......blah. Let's just hope life picks up once I get back; after the exam on Monday, I won't have any major assignments due for another month, and I plan on skipping all the schoolwork I can afford to skip, making sure I enjoy and make the most out of the last few weeks of college in the meantime.
The only things of note I did this week was start rewatching A:tLA yet again, and seeing two movies, the Italian movie The Right Distance, which was awesome, and the Korean film A Frozen Flower, which sucked horribly. I've been meaning to write a long-winded rant on A Frozen Flower (yes, I hate it that much), but I'll have to get around to it later. Maybe. ^_^; (Oh yes, and the latest episode of Pioneer One, which was awesome as always. :D)
Here are the only two plans I have for summer so far:
--June 4: Okkervil River will be playing at Toad's Place. It's close by, it's on a Saturday night, and I really want to go!
--June 8-12: Trip to California for my cousin's high school graduation. I'm definitely looking forward to this, especially since I love the Bay Area and I've wanted to go back since I visited three years ago. (Yes, this means spending a good portion of my 22nd birthday on an airplane, but it's all good. XD)
Also,
queer_fest has released its list of prompts! Here are some that really caught my attention, and hope someone gets around to fill:
........Okay, so that's a lot of prompts that look cool. O_o; I kinda sorta want to write the Kuei one, but I have absolutely no clue how to go about doing it; on the other hand, when I read the Linus one, I automatically began envisioning this über-long future!AU fic involving Linus questioning his sexuality in high school/college, lots of blue-collar suburban ennui and existential angst, lots of stuff involving the security blanket and/or the Great Pumpkin, meeting with adult!Charlie Brown downing PBRs at the bar with the sticky counters and Lionel Richie on the jukebox, bad breakups, etc. etc. etc. STOP IT BRAIN I CAN'T WRITE THAT FIC AND THERE'S NO WAY I COULD EVER DO IT JUSTICE. DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDX And then there's the Mulan one, which I'm sure has been done a million times before but I've never read any fic of it yet. Anyway, if any of you are interested, go claim some prompts!
Finally, so that this post isn't completely pointless, here are some links:
--Ten adverts that shocked the world -- This is why I won't go into advertising, and you shouldn't either.
--Creepy app warns of an end to privacy
--Behind the Scenes: How Do You Get Into Amherst? -- Warning: Likely to be very disheartening and rage-inducing
--How Americans defeated efficiency with consumerism
--More Black Men Now in Prison System than Were Enslaved
--For Lovers and Fighters -- A long but EXCELLENT piece on polyamory, queer and trans* identities, and what love actually is (hint: it has nothing to do with romance) -- *HIGHLY RECOMMENDED*

--The Male German Bodybuilder That Got Gandhi All Hot and Bothered
--Straight Gamer Calls for "No Homosexuality Option" in Dragon Age 2; Game Maker Responds: Shut It -- I'm only posting this link for the video. (Is it bad that I want to play this game now? XD)

--Nature photography by Henrik Just -- HOLY CRAP Y'ALL THIS STUFF IS AMAZING :O
--"Animal portraits" by Alex Castro

That's about it for me right now -- now time for me to stay up for a few more hours and regret it when I have to get up early in the morning. :B

Any Fandom : Any character 40+, Questioning your sexuality after over two decades of not questioning is hard—especially when no one believes you. But sometimes all it takes is one person to care enough to listen.
Any Fandom : any character, 'asexual' does not mean 'straight.
Any Fandom : Any character, An asexual character has to deal with friends in the LGBTQ community that don't treat their sexuality as valid.
Any Fandom : any character, An asexual and aromantic character strives to prove that zie is not miserable just because zie's never been in a relationship or had sex.
Any Fandom : any character, being asexual doesn't automatically make you aromantic, and this character has only ever had romantic feelings for people of the same gender. Any story reflecting on this character's identity as queer.
Any Fandom : any character, Being LGBT and an introvert, outside anything anyone would call a scene, making a community where you find it.
Any Fandom : any character, being queer and mentally ill and having trouble finding the line between the two.
Any Fandom : any character. I don't have to explain the nuances of my sexual identity to you.
Any Fandom : any characters, An asexual, but not aromantic, love story.
Any Fandom : any characters, Just because they're both queer, doesn't mean they agree about politics. At all.
Any Fandom : any characters, Post-apocalyptic. You thought being queer sucked when there were six billion humans, a reasonably steady supply of food and water, and *zero* hordes of ravening undead.
Any Fandom : any characters, what does 'virginity' mean when you're queer? Or 'queer' when you're a virgin?
Any Fandom : any MtF character, why she doesn't want surgery--a girl can have a penis dammit! This should NOT be a problem!
Any Fandom : any older character, Coming out at quite an advanced age. So, what took them so long?
Any Science Fiction or Supernatural Fandom : any characters, A human and a non-human discuss their differing views on sexuality and/or gender.
Any Superhero Fandom : any heroic character, it's hard to tell which is going to be more difficult to explain: that the new lover used to be a supervillain, or that the new lover is a member of the same sex.
Avatar: The Last Airbender : any Avatar, It's hard enough being the Avatar without also being singled out for your unusual sexual/gender identity.
Avatar: The Last Airbender : any Avatar: Seeking comfort and wisdom in past lives of many genders and sexualities.
Avatar: The Last Airbender : any character. At least the flying bison accepts me.
Avatar: The Last Airbender : King Kuei, Things learned about oneself and one's subjects while wandering the continent as a vagabond.
Avatar: The Last Airbender : Ty Lee, Ty Lee's first relationship, platonic and romantic, was with an abusive aristocrat with a talent for manipulating people, and it's done a number on her ability to trust. That it was also with another woman shouldn't be a factor.
Beauty and the Beast : Gaston, He suppressed his feelings over the year, believing that if he turned himself into the perfect man, he would finally be able to escape how he felt towards the other boys.
Durarara!! : Orihara Izaya, If you must label his flamboyant, excessive ways, he prefers "trollosexual", even "lulzophile", thank you very much.
Mulan : Li Shang, The moment he saw Ping's womanly figure, he felt disappointment: not that his best soldier was a woman, but because she wasn't the man he'd grown to love.
Peanuts : Linus van Pelt, Linus's quiet, unshakable faith is shaken when he finds himself falling in love with a boy.
Peanuts : Peppermint Patty/Marcie, Their interest in Charlie Brown and the other boys was always a smokescreen, but as they got older it got more difficult to maintain.
Sherlock (BBC) : Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Growing up with a gay sister, John didn't think he had anything remotely like internalized homophobia. But then, he'd never fallen in love with a man before.
Sherlock (BBC) : Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Just because Sherlock is asexual, doesn't mean he doesn't want to have sex with John. This is very hard for John to understand.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann : Leeron Littner, sometimes he gets tired of being their Gay Friend (tm).
The Giver : any characters, The scientists behind Sameness never figured out what to do about sexual/gender orientation - but that was all right, since the pills for the Stirrings papered over all of that quite nicely. After Jonas leaves the community, though, a handful of people stop taking the pills, and some of them suddenly have to confront a sexual or gender identity they 'shouldn't' have.
Transformers : any character, Humans automatically assume that robots couldn't possibly have gender. At least one Cybertronian (trans or genderqueer) wishes it were that simple.
Transformers (movie) : Sam, Sam has to explain to a bot why just coming out and telling a guy he likes him wouldn't be a simple thing
When I Was a Boy (song – Dar Williams) : Narrator/Man She's With, She grew up feeling and acting like a traditional boy--climbing, roughhousing, exploring and riding her bike without a shirt on. He grew up feeling and acting like a traditional girl--talking to his mother, picking flowers and crying when he was unhappy. Now they're both grown up, and neither is very satisfied with the gender role or sexual orientation that society says they should have.
