On writing, at least right now

Lately I've been thinking about my writing and the direction I want to take it, if I want to take it anywhere at all.  I had a conversation recently with my friend, and the topic of our writing came up.  We're both writers -- or like to think of ourselves as such -- and we were talking about our collective lack of inspiration and ability to write anything, and I mentioned something that had been bothering me all this time, but couldn't quite put into words.  Because this has been bothering me for some time, I want to try and sort this out -- great thing I have an LJ to do this.  Ignore the rest of this if you're not interested -- it's just me sorting things in my mind out yet again.  :D
